How to check and disable Recall in Windows 11 24H2

Until we deal with IT security, we have to restrict the use of Recall in Windows 11 24H2. Microsoft designed Recall to act as a photographic memory for your PC, more here: Recall. Recall is a feature that allows you to search for anything you have seen on your PC, even if you don’t remember where you saw it. Recall is a powerful tool that can help you find information quickly and easily, but it can also be a security risk if not used properly.

So most of IT security professionals are disabling Recall in Windows 11 24H2. Here is how you can do it:

Disable as Feature

  1. Open the Windows Console as an administrator.
  2. Run the following command to check the status of Recall:

    DISM /online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName:Recall
    
  3. If Recall is enabled, run the following command to disable it:
    1
    
    DISM /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:Recall
    
  4. Restart your PC to apply the changes.

Disable from GPO

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows AI > Allow Recall to be enabled and set it to Disabled.
